Am I the only one who thinks the 'go ultralight or go home' push on the PCT is overblown?
Everyone in the Facebook groups acts like carrying 35 pounds through the Sierra is a crime, but when I hiked the John Muir Trail back in 2022 with a 32 pound pack, I was way more comfortable on the cold nights than the folks shivering in their 8 pound setups. The extra weight in my sleeping bag and bear can meant I slept through the 28 degree nights at Guitar Lake while ultralighters were up all night. Curious if anyone else has done a heavier route and still had a great trip, or am I just stubborn?
