The garlic press thing is just one of those. Kitchen gadgets, phone apps, exercise machines, all of it. Somebody sells us a fix for a problem we did not have, and we hang onto it because we spent money. I had a bread maker that sat on the counter for years making one sad loaf a month. My dad still uses a shoehorn when his fingers work fine. The pattern is we trust the tool more than the simple thing our hands already know how to do.

Funny how the right tool just ruins you for the old way once you actually try it. Same thing happened to me with a power drill, took me way too long to stop being stubborn about it.
