Got turned around in the fog near Mount Rainier and learned a hard lesson about GPS

My phone died halfway through the Skyline Trail loop and I had to use my paper map for the first time in years, which honestly saved my butt. Anyone else have a moment that made them double check their backup navigation?

Totally. That's why I keep a map and compass in my car at all times now. GPS is great until it isn't. Batteries die, signals drop, or the trail just isn't on the map right. A paper map doesn't need a signal. It's a basic skill that feels outdated until you really need it. Makes you realize how much we rely on tech that can fail.

Couldn't agree more, it's smart backup.

Ever actually had to use the map in a real pinch?
