Took the road less traveled in Glacier and it bit me twice
Had to pick between the Highline Trail and the Grinnell Glacier route last month. Everyone said Highline was the classic, so I went with that. 9 miles in, the wind picked up and I lost my map on a switchback near Haystack Butte. Turned around at the chalet and ended up backtracking 3 miles in the dark with a dead headlamp. Has anyone else had a 'must see' route totally not live up to the hype and wish they'd gone with the underdog?

Wait, were you relying on that map for more than just navigation? Like, did it have your campsite or emergency info on it, or was it purely a dignity thing when you realized you'd lost it on a switchback? Cause losing a map at mile 9 is annoying, but backtracking in the dark with no light source feels like the real kicker. Did you have any backup plan at all, or was that day just fully written off as a loss?
