I know a guy who dropped almost $600 on a "career coach" package and his resume came back with the same template everyone else gets, just his name swapped in. The thing is, a resume service can only work with what you give them, and if you don't know how to sell yourself in the first place, no writer is gonna magically pull that out of thin air. Your community college career center worked because you sat there and actually did the work yourself with someone guiding you, which is the whole point. So the lesson isn't that paid services are a scam, it's that you get out what you put in, and outsourcing the thinking part is where people mess up.

A spare key in your wallet costs about three bucks and takes zero effort. Wallet goes in your pocket every time you leave the house, so you always have a way in. Locking yourself out is 100% a choice at that point, not bad luck.
