Tried a 'shortcut' on the Lost Coast Trail and ended up adding 3 extra miles of bushwhacking.
Honestly, I saw a faint path on my map near Shelter Cove that looked like it cut off a big bend, but it vanished after 200 yards and I spent the next two hours fighting through thick brush before hitting the beach again, so has anyone else had a map detail totally betray them on a supposed route?

Man, that's rough... you ever trust a dotted line on a park map? I did that once on a trail up north, the map showed a clear connector between two lakes... turned out it was just a dry creek bed full of fallen trees, took forever to get through. Felt like the map was playing a joke on me.

Oh man, I feel that. Got totally fooled by a dotted line that was supposed to be a "shortcut" to a waterfall. Ended up being a straight up cliff scramble, hands and knees the whole way. Those maps can be cruel.
