Warning: The John Muir Trail isn't the only way to see the Sierra
Last week, I finished a 5-day loop out of Bishop Pass that was better than my JMT hike three years ago. Everyone pushes the JMT, but it's crowded and you need a permit lottery. This route had the same granite peaks and lakes, but I saw maybe ten people total. It made me wonder why we all chase the same famous trail. Has anyone else found a quieter Sierra route they like more?

Yeah, that bit about the permit lottery is so true...

People get way too worked up about these lotteries. It's just a piece of paper for a hike, not a life or death thing. Lily_dixon27 has a point about raising prices, maybe that would calm everyone down. The whole system is annoying but it's not the end of the world.

Makes you wonder why they don't just raise the price to cut down on the crazy demand.
