I was all set to pour a concrete pad for my shed until my brother-in-law handed me a shovel
Last month I finally bought an 8x10 shed kit and had my mind made up on a 4 inch concrete slab because everyone online swears by them. My brother-in-law came over and asked why I wanted to dig out 2 yards of dirt and pay $340 for a truck of ready mix when my yard drains fine. I argued with him for an hour, then he dragged me to his place in Bellingham to see his shed sitting on a gravel pad he put in 6 years ago. His floor was still dead level, no cracks, and he only spent about $90 on crushed rock and a tamper rental. What got me was when he lifted the edge of my shed kit manual and pointed out it actually lists gravel as an approved base, I had just skipped that page. I went with the gravel and it took me one Saturday instead of three weekends of digging and waiting on concrete to cure. The one thing I did different was add a 6 mil plastic sheet under the gravel because my soil stays wet in spring. Now I am second guessing myself every time it rains hard, so has anybody here had a gravel pad shift on them after a few wet seasons?
