My fence gate project turned into a 3 week geometry lesson

I decided to replace a sagging wooden gate in my backyard fence. Thought it would be a weekend job, maybe 2 days tops. But the posts were rotted below ground level, and the ground had shifted so nothing was square anymore. It took me 3 whole weekends to dig out the old posts, pour new concrete footings, and get everything level and swinging right. Has anyone else had a simple fence fix turn into a much bigger project than you planned?

Three weeks and all I got was a lousy gate that actually works. Pretty sure I've rebuilt my entire fence 3 times just trying to fix one hinge.

Honestly, calling a rotten post a "simple fence fix" is kind of setting yourself up for that.
