Spent $60 on a digital thermometer for the coop and it paid off fast
I got one of those wifi ones from Amazon after losing 3 birds last winter to a random cold snap. It texts me if the temp drops below freezing in the coop at night. That was 4 months ago and it already warned me twice when the heat lamp bulb blew out. Has anyone else tried those or do you just trust your gut on coop temps?

Which wifi one did you go with? I've been eyeing those but I'm a little worried about the app connectivity when temps really drop (like single digits) since my router takes a dive sometimes in the cold. Did you have to set up any kind of repeater out by the coop or does it reach fine from your house? Also, how's the battery life on the sensor part if the power goes out?

Oh yeah, I had almost the exact same worries when I set mine up last winter. Ended up going with the Thermopro wifi one and it actually held up fine in the single digits, even with my router being a bit flaky in the cold. No repeater needed from my house about 50 feet away, and the batteries lasted a solid two weeks during a three day power outage, so that part surprised me in a good way.
