Am I the only one who hit 40 nights under the stars and realized my cheap red headlamp was wrecking my night vision?

I started keeping a tally in my notes app back in March and just crossed 40 nights out on my back patio with my 8 inch dob. The weird part is my night vision kept getting worse around night 30, so I finally tested it and my red headlamp was leaking a ton of white light. I switched to a $14 red mode light and the difference at the eyepiece was nuts, I could actually see structure in the Orion Nebula again. Still kicking myself for how many clear nights I wasted squinting at fuzzy blobs. Anyone else find out their gear was quietly ruining their sessions, and what was the fix?
