I wasted 2 years fighting dew on my lens before realizing the heater strip was pointed at the wrong spot
So I live in Dayton and my scope fogs up every clear night from like April through October, and I kept blaming my dew shield. Turns out I had the heater strap wrapped around the front of the tube instead of right behind the objective cell. A guy at our club star party at Caesar Creek last Saturday pointed at it and laughed, said the heat needs to sit where the metal meets the glass or you're just warming empty air. I moved it back about an inch and a half and got 3 straight hours of clear views of Jupiter's bands with no fogging at all. I felt like a total idiot for not figuring it out sooner, but also relieved that the fix cost me zero dollars. Did anyone else place their strip in the wrong spot at first, or am I the last person to learn this?
