Overheard a buddy say a tracking mount is a waste of money for backyard views
He claimed you don't need one unless you're doing photography, but after 3 nights of losing Jupiter every 10 seconds at 150x zoom, I think he's dead wrong. Has anyone else found a cheap tracking mount that actually holds steady for visual observation?

Gotta gently disagree with @parkerh38 there - the Star Adventurer is more of a camera tracker than a solid visual mount, especially at 150x.

Feel your pain man, I spent months fighting with a manual mount and Jupiter was basically a blurry light show I caught for half a second before it drifted away. Picked up a used Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer for pretty cheap and it honestly changed everything, I can actually sit back and track the planet for a few minutes without touching the scope. The key is getting one with a clutch release so you can push it around manually to find stuff and then just flip the motor on. What's your budget looking like for a mount?
