Just realized I was bending conduit all wrong for 4 years

I used to bend my 90s by pulling hard on the bender handle until it felt right. Last month I was on a job in Portland and another electrician showed me how to line up the arrow mark on the bender with the conduit mark. Turned out I was overbending by about 10 degrees every time. Feeling dumb but also glad to finally get consistent bends. Has anyone else had a basic skill click way later than it should have?

My buddy swore a red filter would fix my nebula photos

My friend Dave, who shoots astro on a $200 telescope, told me to tape a red gel filter over my lens to cut light pollution. I tried it on Orion last week and all I got were weird pink stars and a blurry mess. Has anyone else gotten bad photo advice from a know-it-all friend?

Got a nasty surprise in the bilge of a tugboat in Norfolk last week

We were doing a routine hull clean on an old tug, and I dropped down to check the sea chest. The water was so dark with oil and muck I couldn't see my gauges, just a thick, greasy feel. My tender, Mike, had to talk me through the valve check by sound and touch alone because my light was useless. Anyone got a good light that can punch through that kind of soup?
