Found this old lava lamp at a Goodwill in Eugene once. Plugged it in at home and the cord started getting warm almost right away, had to yank it from the wall. Pulled the whole base apart and the wire insulation was basically dust, just crumbling off in my hands. Kinda scary how many of these old lamps are probably still out there plugged in somewhere.

Man, that's wild. I mean, I get where the old timer is coming from. My buddy runs a landscaping crew and he swears by skipping oil changes on his mowers for like two seasons. Says the air filter is the real deal, and the oil just gets dark, not bad. I don't know if I'd push it that far on a dredge, but it makes you think. Maybe some of those intervals are just padding for liability. I remember my grandpa had an old tractor he never changed the hydraulic fluid in, just topped it off every few years. Ran for decades before it finally gave out. Makes you wonder how much money gets wasted on perfectly good filters.

Wait, @aliceg61, did it have any markings on the back? I swear those old mirrors have a way of making you feel like you're looking at someone else. Tbh I found one at a flea market years ago and it gave me the creeps for weeks. Ngl the patina on bronze just hits different. You can tell it's been through some stuff. Wish I still had mine but it got lost during a move.

Doesnt tracking miles take the fun out of it though? I'd rather just go when I feel like it than keep score, and @spencer_hayes71 probably wouldve had a better time if he didnt glance at that app.

My grandma had this old cast iron skillet that she used for everything, eggs, cornbread, even steaks. I remember thinking it was just some heavy, ugly pan. Then I tried cooking a steak in my fancy nonstick pan and it came out terrible, so I borrowed hers and it was the best steak I ever made. That skillet had decades of seasoning built into it, no coating to scratch, just years of use. @charliehill you hit on something real with that stubbornness tax idea. It makes me wonder how many other simple things we ignore just because they aren't shiny and new.
