My stand mixer decided to quit mid-batch yesterday
I was in the middle of making a double batch of brioche for a wedding order when my KitchenAid started making this horrible grinding noise and then just stopped turning. It's a 5-quart model I've had for about 6 years now, and it's never done that before. I tried letting it cool down for 20 minutes and turning it back on but nothing happened. Ended up having to finish the dough by hand which took forever and my arms are so sore today lol. Has anyone had luck fixing a mixer that just dies like that or should I just bite the bullet and get a new one?

Called a friend who's a pastry chef when my old hand mixer died mid-batch and she just laughed and said that's why she keeps a backup. She had her KitchenAid do the same thing a few years back and found out the plastic gear inside had stripped. Ended up being a cheaper fix than a new mixer so might be worth opening it up before you toss it.

Well, I'm not sure opening up a dead kitchen appliance is something most people should be doing. Unless you're handy with small electronics, you might end up making a bigger mess or hurting yourself. It's probably simpler and safer for most folks to just buy a new hand mixer.
