My grandmas pie crust trick finally worked after 6 tries

My grandma always said to use ice cold vodka instead of water in pie crust, and I thought she was crazy for like 5 years. Last Tuesday I tried it with a bottle of cheap Smirnoff and the crust came out flaky and tender for the first time ever, no shrinking at all. Has anyone else had a family tip that sounded dumb but turned out to be the secret?
