Why I finally deleted my budgeting app after 3 years of trusting it

I was a huge fan of those automatic budgeting apps, the ones that sync to your bank and sort your spending. For 3 years I thought my $47 monthly subscription was keeping me honest. Then last quarter I did a manual spreadsheet audit, took 4 hours on a Sunday, and found the app had miscategorized almost $600 in fast food as groceries because the merchant codes were wrong. That mistake changed my whole view of automation in personal finance. The app made me feel organized but the data was garbage underneath. I get the appeal, I really do, I loved the pretty charts too. But now I trust a simple ledger I update weekly more than any AI sorting tool. Has anyone else caught their bank or app making dumb categorization errors that threw off their monthly budget?

Same thing happened to me, the merchant codes put my Taco Bell runs under "home supplies" for months.
