Found a $5 toaster at a Maplewood estate sale that almost burned my kitchen down, check yours before plugging it in
The cord had a cracked spot right where it meets the plug and it sparked the second I pushed it into the outlet. I popped the cover off and found the heating wires were held in by tape that had turned to dust, so it was arcing against the metal shell. If you grab old appliances for cheap, tug the cord and peek inside before you ever plug them in, has anyone else pulled one apart and found something scary?
