Rant: I swore off used power tools after a $15 drill died on me, then a $12 garage sale find changed my mind
Two years ago I bought a used corded drill for $15 at a flea market in Fresno and it smoked out on the third hole. I told myself never again, no more used power tools, full stop. Then last month I hit a moving sale down the street and saw an old bench grinder sitting on a folding table for $12. I almost walked past it but the guy said his dad used it in a machine shop for 20 years and it still spun. I plugged it in right there on his driveway, it hummed smooth, no wobble, and I handed him the cash. I've run it maybe six times since on mower blades and chisels and it just keeps going. Now I'm sitting here wondering if my whole rule was wrong, or if I just got lucky once. Any of you got a used tool that outlived the new one you bought to replace it?
