Update: My garage sale level led to a surprise flood discovery
The level cost me $2 at a yard sale in Akron last month, and my trim carpenter buddy said I was wasting money on a gimmick. He told me the bubble was probably dead and it would never sit true against what I already owned. I tested it anyway on my concrete slab at home, and it matched my newer 6-foot aluminum level perfectly within 1/16 of an inch. Last week I used it to check the drainage on my neighbor's patio slab, and it caught a low spot that would have made water pool against their foundation. They poured the walkway yesterday with a different slope, all because of that cheap brass tool. My buddy ate his words and asked me to keep an eye out for another one. Has anyone else had a $5 or less thrift tool beat out the expensive stuff in a real project?
