Unpopular opinion: the old guy at the shop in Reno was right about torque wrenches being overrated for most stuff
Client brought in a creaky bottom bracket on a 2019 Trek and I was about to grab my Park Tool TW-6 when the 71 year old guy who owns the place waved me off and said "your arm knows more than that clicker ever will." I got kind of annoyed but I did it his way, snug plus a quarter turn by feel, and it's been silent for 3 weeks of hard riding. Now I'm second guessing the $180 I spent on a calibrated wrench for stem bolts and seat clamps. Anyone else here think we over-tooled the simple jobs, or am I about to strip a crank arm and prove him wrong?
