That Tuesday I tried to fix my own sink and flooded the kitchen

Last month I decided to save $150 by replacing the disposal myself, watched a 10-minute video and felt like a pro. I forgot to turn off the water at the valve, so when I pulled the old unit off, water shot everywhere for a solid 3 minutes before I found the main shutoff. Has anyone else had a simple DIY job turn into a total disaster like that?

Man, gotta disagree a little. Plumbing is one of those things where paying a pro is worth it just for the peace of mind. I've seen way too many flooded basements and busted pipes from people trying to save a buck.

Nah, most basic plumbing stuff is totally doable yourself if you watch a youtube video or two. Half the time the "pro" just tightens a fitting or replaces a washer anyway. You're already paying for the house, might as well learn how the pipes work.
