Tried to save $15 by patching my own jeans and ended up with a denim diaper
I watched a 10 minute YouTube tutorial and thought 'easy enough', but after 3 hours my crotch seam looked like a bad origami project. Now I'm wondering if sewing classes are worth it or if I should just pay the $15 next time. Anybody else ruin a perfectly good pair of pants trying to be cheap?

Also the good thrift stores near me charge way more for patched jeans than ones with a small hole, so you might have actually increased the value by accident.

$15 is nothing compared to the waste you'd create throwing out a pair of jeans with a small rip. Fast fashion is killing the planet and people act like a little sewing is too hard. I've patched six pairs of my own pants now and sure the first one looked rough but I learned something each time. Those three hours taught you way more than handing over your money to someone else who learned the same way. Now you know what not to do and next time you'll actually have half a clue. Keep at it instead of giving up after one bad try.
