Update: my barber in Knoxville said skip the cheap clippers and learn on your own head first, and he was right
Back in March I bought a $180 set of clippers thinking I would save $25 a month on haircuts. My barber Marcus laughed and said practice on myself for 6 weeks before touching anyone else. I ignored that part and gave my brother a fade for his job interview at a warehouse in Knoxville, and it looked like a lawn mower got loose. So I buzzed my own head for two months and the guard slipped twice, right above my left ear, both times. Now I can do a decent taper and my brother still brings it up at family dinners. Has anyone else learned a skill the hard way after getting free advice they blew off?
That guard slipping twice right above your left ear made me laugh because that's exactly where mine always got me too. But the "practice on yourself for 6 weeks" thing isn't really the lesson, since what actually saved you was the two months of buzzing your own head and messing up. Most guys never get past the brother's warehouse interview phase because they quit after the first bad fade instead of doing the boring reps.
