Hot take: People keep saying a show is slow when they just didn't give it enough time.

I keep seeing folks drop 'Station Eleven' after one episode because they say it's boring. The whole point is the slow build, and by episode three, you're completely hooked. What's a show you almost quit but are glad you stuck with?

Yeah, I give a show the whole first season now. Learned that from "The Americans." First few episodes felt like a weird history lesson, but by mid-season one, the spy stuff and the marriage drama got so tense. The slow start built the whole world.

Sometimes a slow start is just a bad start. Not every payoff is worth the wait.

You're so right about "slow" shows. I had that with "The Good Place." The first few episodes felt like a silly sitcom, and I almost left. But then the big twist at the end of the first season changed everything. It made all the earlier jokes have a deeper meaning. If I'd quit, I would have missed one of the smartest shows about ethics ever made. It's the best example of a show where the start is totally different from what it becomes.
