Watched my buddy switch his whole show lineup from hour-long dramas to 22 minute sitcoms, and now I'm wondering if we're both watching wrong
Last Thanksgiving my friend Dave in Phoenix had me over and we got into a debate about how we watch shows. He had just made a big change. Two weeks earlier he dropped every drama he was watching, things like the slow burn stuff on the streaming apps, and replaced all of it with half hour comedies. His reason was simple. He said he kept falling asleep 40 minutes into every episode and waking up at 2am with the credits rolling and no idea what happened. So he switched to shows he could finish in one sitting before bed. I told him he was crazy and that he was missing the whole point of a good drama, the build up, the payoff after 8 episodes of setup. But then I tried it for a week. I finished 11 episodes of a comedy in the same time it used to take me to get through 3 episodes of a drama, and I actually remembered every plot. Now I can't decide if binging short shows is just smarter for busy people or if we're both just losing patience. Has anyone else made this switch and regretted it, or is the half hour format actually the better binge?
