Saw some strange hammers at a frontier forge last week

I was traveling through the mountains and visited an old frontier forge. They had hammers with two different sized heads that I've never seen in my own work area. What were these used for, and does anyone still make them?

Yeah, those are for shaping metal with two heads for different jobs. I used something similar when helping out at a local forge once. You can still get them from places that sell old school tools, lmao.

But honestly how many people really need a fancy two-headed hammer for metal shaping? Sounds like the kind of tool you buy when you're deep into a hobby and convincing yourself you need the perfect gear. Most folks could probably make do with a regular hammer and some creativity, not a special order from an old school catalog. Feels like overkill unless you're actually running a forge every day. Kind of reminds me of people who buy super specific kitchen gadgets for one single use.

Probably texturing hammers for blacksmithing. Some specialty shops still sell them.
