Sometimes all it takes is seeing it in person just once. Reading about temper colors in a book never made sense, but holding a piece of steel that shows the whole rainbow from tip to handle tells you everything. You can see exactly where the heat traveled and how it changed the metal. That physical proof is worth a thousand diagrams. Finding that kind of teacher for a few bucks is a total win.
