Just realized my game group was quietly splitting into two tables, and I only caught it last month
A guy named Raj who comes to my Tuesday group in Phoenix said something that stuck with me. He mentioned he stopped bringing his heavier games because half the table checks their phones by round two, so he saves them for a smaller group on Fridays. I had assumed everyone was fine with the long 3 hour sessions, but it turns out the group had been quietly sorting itself into people who want a 45 minute filler and people who want to sink into a big game. We've got 11 regulars now and splitting into two tables at 6:30 worked way better than forcing one big game. How do you all handle it when your group starts wanting different things out of game night?
Splitting into two tables at a set time is the move, just make it clear up front which table is doing what so nobody feels stuck. We also let people switch tables between games so it doesn't feel like picking teams.
