Switched from a plastic insert to a cheap wooden insert in Catan and my setup time got cut in half
I got Catan about two years ago and for a long time I just used the flimsy clear plastic tray that comes in the box. Setup always bugged me because the hexes slide around and you have to sort everything by hand, which eats up about 15 minutes before anyone even rolls dice. So I grabbed a $22 laser cut wooden insert off Etsy, the kind with labeled slots for each resource and the number chits. The difference is night and day. Now the box opens, everything sits in its own spot, and the board is ready in under 7 minutes. The wood one also holds the cards flat so my sheep and wheat don't get bent edges anymore. It's a small thing but game night starts way smoother. Has anyone tried those foam inserts instead? I'm wondering if they hold up better for games with a ton of tiny pieces.
