The game store owner in Reno handed me a beat up copy of Acquire and said the box was worth more than the game
I was in Reno last March for a work trip and wandered into a small game store off Virginia Street. I picked up a copy of Acquire with a torn box corner and asked if he had a nicer one in back. He laughed and said he had been running that shop for 14 years and the copies that got played were always the ugly ones, and the mint copies just sat there like decorations. He took the beat up one out of my hands, flipped the lid open, and pointed at the little pencil marks inside where someone had written in scores from the 80s. I ended up paying $12 for it instead of the $40 sealed copy on the shelf behind him. I have played it 11 times since and it is the only game in my shelf where I actually know the story behind it. Is there a game in your collection you bought because of the wear on the box instead of the game itself?
