A boilermaker in Gary, Indiana showed me his rod basket trick and it fixed my whole day
Was on a shutdown job last month and this old boilermaker kept his rod basket loaded in a certain order so he never had to fumble at height. I copied it the next day and cut my rig-up time by about 15 minutes. Anyone else got a small habit like that they picked up from watching somebody else work?

Man, the real trick is finding a boilermaker who'll actually share his setup instead of just grunting at you and walking off. I worked with a guy who color coded his wrench bag and I thought it was the dumbest thing ever until I tried it and stopped digging around for ten minutes every day. Fifteen minutes off rig-up is no joke either, that adds up over a whole turnaround. Meanwhile I'm over here still dropping sockets into the grate like an idiot.
