Lost $115 on a cheap hydraulic jack, go with the name brands
Last fall I picked up a no-name 20 ton bottle jack off an online auction site to level some heavy plate work. Figured a jack is a jack, right? First two uses it held fine, but on the third job in a shop over in Gary, Indiana, it bled down slow and dumped a whole beam corner. Caught it before anything got hurt, but I lost the $115 purchase price trying to rebuild it with a kit that didn't fit, then just tossed it. My buddy laughed and said he had the same thing happen with a $90 one from a swap meet. Wish I had listened to the old boilermaker who told me to stick with Enerpac or Simplex for anything over 10 tons. The cheap one was false savings and a real safety hazard. Has anyone else had a budget jack fail on them, and what brand do you trust now?
