TIL the firebox door on a little 15 psi steam boiler will bite you if you rush the hinge pin
Spent Thursday morning on a small vertical boiler at a food plant in Peoria and had to choose between pulling the firebox door off its hinge for a gasket swap or just wrestling it free while still hanging. I picked the lazy route and got the door to swing weird and pinch my glove right at the knuckle. Took two of us and a pry bar to line the pin back up while the plant manager watched from the doorway. Next time I'm pulling the pin and setting the door on a pallet, no debate. Anybody got a trick for hanging one of those doors solo without wrecking your back?
