Our book club went from 4 finished books a year to 11, and the change was one rule
Two years back our club met in my living room in Columbus and we were lucky to finish 4 books a year. Half of us never got past chapter 3 because whoever picked the book would spend 40 minutes explaining why it mattered. In January we started a rule where the picker says nothing until the end. No intro, no defense, no backstory. The arguing got way better because people actually had their own take instead of reacting to someone else's. Now we finish a book about every 5 weeks. Does anyone else's group have a rule like this, or did yours just fall apart?
