Our book club split over whether the narrator was the villain, and it got heated
We meet at the public library downtown every 3rd Thursday, and last month I brought up that everyone in the group loved the ending of The Last House on Needless Street except me. I said the twist felt cheap, that the real horror was the animal abuse being brushed aside for a shocker. One member yelled, another slammed the table, and our moderator actually left for 10 minutes to cool off. I ended up suggesting we vote on if the narrator's actions were forgivable, and it split 7 to 5, with the losing side still grumbling about it. Has anyone else had a book club where a single character interpretation just nuked the whole night?
