Noticed a cool trick at a bookbinder's shop in Portland last week

I was visiting this old bindery in Portland and saw they use a simple piece of wax paper between the spine and the cover during pressing to stop glue bleed. Has anyone else tried that or got a better hack for keeping it clean?
