I mean, I always thought talking to your plants was kind of silly, but my basil in the kitchen window is proof.

My friend kept telling me to try it, said it was about the CO2 from your breath. I was super skeptical, idk, it just felt weird. But I had this one basil plant that was looking really sad, all droopy. I started just chatting at it a little when I watered it, maybe for like two weeks. Nothing fancy, just 'hey buddy, how's it going' stuff. It perked up way more than the other one I ignored. Maybe it's just me, but has anyone else had a plant actually respond to that, or did I just get lucky with the light?

My neighbor swears by talking to her tomatoes. She gets a bigger yield every year, so there might be something to it. Your basil story adds to the proof.

Is it really the talking though, or is it just that people who talk to their plants are usually the ones paying closer attention to them? I mean, my uncle waters his garden on a strict schedule and barely looks at his tomatoes, and they come out fine. Meanwhile, my sister talks to her basil every morning but forgot to repot it when it got root bound, and it died. Maybe it's just me but I think the extra care and observation are what make the difference, not the actual words. Like, you're probably checking for bugs and watering more often if you're out there chatting with them. Idk, just seems like correlation not causation to me.

Guess my plants are the only ones who listen to me. My conversation skills must be pretty bad with people.
