Lost my 4-year-old monstera to root rot because I repotted it in July instead of waiting for spring

I was in my kitchen in Tucson trying to save it after I saw the yellow leaves, but by the time I pulled it out the roots were mush and I ended up cutting it back to a single node. Has anyone actually gotten a chopped monstera to push new growth, or did I just kill my favorite plant for good?
