Tried bottom watering my succulents for 3 months

Everyone in this group swears by bottom watering for succulents. I did it for 3 months straight with a tray system and letting them soak for 20 minutes each time. Three of my echeverias got root rot and two jades dropped all their leaves. Learned that my tap water has high mineral content which built up in the pots. Has anyone else had better luck switching back to top watering with filtered water?

Yeah 20 minutes is way too long for most succulents. I cut mine to 10 minutes max and started using a Brita pitcher. Total game changer for my echeverias.

Wait, 20 minutes? That's asking for trouble dude. @theawest is right, 10 minutes tops and filter that tap water.
