That drain snake that snapped inside my pipe in Tulsa

Bought a $35 drain snake from the hardware store last Saturday to clear a kitchen clog. It snapped off about 4 feet in and left a metal coil stuck somewhere past the trap. Plumber quoted me $180 to pull it out, so I am trying a magnetic pickup tool from Amazon first. Has anyone else had this happen, or am I the only one dumb enough to yank too hard?
