The $30 drill bit set that made me eat my words

I always bought the cheap packs from the hardware store, thinking bits were bits. Last month I splurged on a quality set for a deck project, and the difference in how clean the holes came out was night and day. Has anyone else found that spending a bit more upfront actually saves money in the long run?
