TIL my Vermont landlord's advice about winter pipes actually backfired
He swore I should drip every faucet all winter to stop pipes from freezing, but after 2 months of that in my Winooski apartment I got a $180 water bill and the town sent a letter about my 'excessive usage.' Has anyone found a better trick that does not drain my wallet instead of my pipes?
My place in Burlington had the same issue until I put those foam pipe sleeves on the exposed stuff in the basement and left the cabinet doors open under the sinks. Still drip one faucet on the really cold nights but way less than all of them. Water bill went back to normal after that.
