Update: my neighbor's dead lawn in Concord came back in 6 weeks after he stopped mowing it to the dirt every Saturday
I watched him scalp that poor grass to about half an inch all summer, and then in September it went from brown stubble to thick green just by him setting the mower deck up two notches and watering deep once a week, so now I'm staring at my own patch wondering if I've been doing the same thing wrong, has anyone else fixed a lawn just by mowing higher?

Did you ever try just raising the deck before messing with soil and seed?
