Roasting pans vs. whirley pop, my airflow fix
Used to roast in a cast iron skillet on the grill, but I always got uneven beans and chaff fires. Swapped to a whirley pop with a 12v computer fan aimed at the vent, total cost about $15 for the fan. Now my batches of 8oz hit first crack at 9 minutes flat, and the cooling tray actually pulls the smoke away. Anyone else jerry-rig airflow for their stir-crazy roaster or am I the only one?

Hold on, slow down there. You say that fan fixed your airflow, but all you did was move the chaff problem from the roaster to your cooling tray, which means you're just spreading the smoke around the whole room instead of dealing with it at the source.
A whirley pop with a computer fan sounds like a fire waiting to happen since those fans aren't rated for heat and will melt right into your beans mid roast, and then you're stuck with a ruined batch and a broken fan.
Honestly, the whole setup sounds more fragile than just learning to shake the skillet every thirty seconds like people have done for decades without needing any gadgets.
