Yikes, good on you for walking off. I once tried to skip checking if my shelf was level and let's just say my books learned to fly.

Read an article last year about a patio that collapsed because the mortar wasn't mixed right. The whole thing just turned to dust after a few freeze-thaw cycles. They had to redo the entire slab, which cost way more than just checking the mix would have.
