My curved brick path ended up looking like a drunken caterpillar
I decided to add a curved brick path to my backyard without any real plan. I just started laying bricks following what I thought was a gentle arc. Halfway through, the curve got so sharp it almost did a U-turn back to my house. My wife took one look and said it reminded her of a caterpillar that had too much to drink. I had to redo the whole middle section with a proper template. Now it's functional, but we all get a laugh when guests try to follow it.

Ever notice how the first try at curves always goes wild? Tylermurray is right about the garden hose trick, I've done that for flower beds before. But man, I've seen some brick paths in my day that look like they were laid by someone with their eyes closed. One down the street has a bend so sudden it looks like the bricks got scared and jumped to the side. Your tipsy caterpillar is a perfect way to put it, that mental picture is going to stick with me now. Makes the fixed path feel like a real win, even with the extra work.

When I helped my neighbor lay a stone walkway last spring, we had the same caterpillar issue on the first try. Our curve kept getting tighter until it almost looped back to his porch. Using a garden hose as a guide saved us from having to redo everything like you did. It's funny how these projects never go as planned, but that's what makes them memorable. Now every time I see a wobbly path, I picture a tipsy insect trying to find its way home.
