The battery thing is honestly just the modern version of every tool tradeoff I've noticed lately. Like how my buddy's cordless nailer still can't sink a framing nail into old teak without bogging down, but the compressor version never even blinks. We keep trading raw power for convenience and pretending it's a fair deal. Your oak trim cuts probably went fine because oak is forgiving, but wait until you hit some dense maple or a stack of pressure treated lumber and watch that charge meter drop like a rock. It's the same pattern with drills, saws, even leaf blowers. We're all just charging battery after battery and calling it progress.

Did your dad ever have a reason for doing it that way, or was it just habit? I used to trust whatever my father did in the shop without question, but after a few bent brackets and stripped screws, I learned the hard way that some shortcuts are actually just mistakes. Bolting through the top takes a little more time, but it holds way better, and that's what matters in the end.

Did your rice actually turn out okay, or was it a little crunchy on the bottom? My buddy Dave did the same thing with a pot lid and a dish towel last year, but his rice ended up with a weird plastic taste because the towel dipped down and touched the grains. He still ate it though, just said it was "campfire rice" and topped it with soy sauce. The real kicker is he didn't buy a new rice cooker for like three months, just kept using the towel trick every single time. Honestly, the plate method sounds way more solid than what he was doing.

Yeah that's basically me too. The 3 episode thing works way better for older shows because they take their time building stuff up. I remember trying to watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes like 5 years ago and the first episode was just people talking in a room and I almost turned it off. Glad I didn't because by episode 4 or 5 I was totally hooked. For newer anime I usually give it 2 episodes tops because they frontload all the action to grab you right away. Old shows were just made different.

Nah but the hammer drill thing is kinda funny. That said you're missing the point a little. Organizing IS part of building things. You can't work efficiently if you're digging through a pile of crap every time you need a socket. Yeah 45 minutes is excessive but if he's got a system that actually works for him then who cares. The real problem is people who organize endlessly and never touch their tools. If he's actually using that hammer drill once a year and it takes him 2 minutes to grab it instead of 20 then the pegboard time paid for itself.
