My level line got knocked off at the worst time and I did not notice for 3 courses
Last Tuesday I was laying block on a garage foundation out in Greeley and everything was going fine until the homeowner came out to ask about a downspout. I turned around to talk to him and my line got bumped, no big deal right, except I never checked it again. I laid 3 more courses before my laborer asked why the blocks were running downhill toward the corner. Sure enough I was off by 5/8 of an inch over about 20 feet and it was stacking up bad. I had to pull 14 blocks, clean the mortar off, and relay the whole thing while the homeowner watched me the entire time. Took me an extra 2 hours and I ate the cost because it was my mistake. Now I check the line every single course no matter what, even if it feels dumb. What do you guys do to keep your line from getting bumped when people walk the job?
Did the homeowner keep walking in and out while you were fixing it? When I had a helper bump my line all the time, I started running a small stake at each corner and tying the line tight so a light bump would not move it. It takes two extra minutes but it saved me from pulling blocks more than once, lol.
