The broken zipper on my winter coat cost me $3.50 to fix at a shoe repair shop

I was about to toss my favorite Columbia jacket because the zipper pull broke off last week. A neighbor told me to try a shoe repair place instead of buying a new coat, and they fixed it in five minutes for less than four bucks. Has anyone else found random repair shops that save you money on stuff you thought was done for?
